I Was in a Borrowed Car

The music was softly playing in the background, as inmates were selecting their seats, before the worship service at Los Angeles County Jail. An inmate recognized the words of the song, and asked if he could say something.

He kept saying, “This is the one. Blessed be the name of the Lord.” So I let him speak.

He stood before the group and said, “I know this song. I was in a borrowed car and this song was playing. It wasn’t really a borrowed car, but, you know, I took it to go to a friend’s house.”

“This song was playing and the drugs were on the seat next to me. I was listening to the words, and I changed. I took the needle and broke it. It threw it away from me. I decided not to do drugs anymore.”

Praise the Lord! He had taken a car that had Christian music playing. God’s truth came through the words of the song and touched his heart. He decided not to get high, but bless the name of the Lord instead.

God is continuing to change his heart.  He is reading the Bible, praying and going to worship services.  Even though he is in jail, he still chooses to bless the name of the Lord.

Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped. 21 And he said:
“Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
And naked shall I return there.
The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away;
Blessed be the name of the Lord.” (Job 1:20-21)

About Chaplain Dan

My desire in setting up this website is to encourage, equip and assist Christians with the Biblical gift of Discerning Spirits and help them use it to bring glory to God. If the gift is from the Holy Spirit, then the end results should be praise to God and the fruit of love, joy, peace, hope, self-control, and freedom from addiction oppression and bondage. This website is a tool to help you bridge from shock and wonder into fruitful service that brings glory to God.
